Romantic Week in Portugal

by Dan Cohen · Updated Sep 17, 2026

A week-long spring trip through Portugal for a couple, with four nights in Lisbon and three nights in Porto (staying across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia), exploring Lisbon's historic sights, sampling pastéis de nata and francesinha, cruising the Douro River, and taking the train between the two cities.

💬 How this trip was created (the chat)
  1. 🧑 Just back from a week in Portugal in May, me and my wife. Four nights in Lisbon, three in Porto.
  2. 🤖 Sounds lovely! Lisbon then Porto is a great combo. Where did you two stay in each city?
  3. 🧑 In Lisbon we stayed at Memmo Alfama, score 9, tiny pool with a view over the river. In Porto at The Yeatman, 10, the wine-hotel across the river.
  4. 🤖 The Yeatman is actually across in Vila Nova de Gaia—did you count that as Porto? Both sound like stunning picks! What sights did you love most in Lisbon? 📍 Found: Memmo Alfama Hotel Lisboa, Tv. das Merceeiras 27, 1100-348 Lisboa, Portugal ★4.6. Is this the one? 📍 Found: The Yeatman Hotel, Rua do Choupelo, 4400-088 Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal ★4.8. Is this the one?
  5. 🧑 Sights: Belém Tower 7, Jerónimos Monastery 9, the tram 28 ride 8. In Porto: Livraria Lello 6 (too crowded), a Douro river cruise 9, Clérigos Tower 8.
  6. 🤖 Beautiful sights list! Tram 28 and Jerónimos sound magical. What restaurants or food spots did you enjoy most in Lisbon?
  7. 🧑 Food: Time Out Market in Lisbon 8, pastéis at Pastéis de Belém 10, in Porto francesinha at Café Santiago 8.
  8. 🤖 Yum, Pastéis de Belém getting a 10 says it all! Sounds like a perfect trip — feel free to add photos with the Share photos button below.
  9. 🧑 We took the train Lisbon to Porto, three hours, easy. Tip: buy the Lisboa Card and go to Belém before 9am.
  10. 🤖 Perfect trip wrap-up — the train and Lisboa Card tip are gold for anyone copying this route! Don't forget to add your photos using the Share photos button below. Enjoy the memories!
  11. 🧑 That's all
  12. 🤖 What a wonderful trip together! Thanks for sharing all the details — don't forget to add your photos with the Share photos button below.
