Jour 1 · Arrival and Jemaa el-Fnaa
Marrakech
💬 Cars can't enter most medina lanes; the driver hands you to a porter with a cart for the last few minutes.
Marrakech
💬 Choose one with a roof terrace, and ask the riad to send exact walking directions from the car drop-off.
Marrakech
The medina's main square — storytellers, musicians and food stalls take over from late afternoon; UNESCO-listed as intangible heritage.
💬 Watch from a café terrace first. Say a firm no to henna offers and photos with animals.
Marrakech
💬 Stalls are numbered; pick a busy one and agree on prices before sitting down.
Jour 2 · Palaces and tombs
Marrakech
12th-century mosque whose 77-metre minaret is the landmark of Marrakech.
💬 Non-Muslims can't enter the mosque; the gardens around it are free and quiet in the morning.
Marrakech
Late-19th-century palace built for a grand vizier, with courtyards and gardens.
💬 Painted cedar ceilings and tiled courtyards; go early before the tour groups.
Marrakech
💬 There's a short queue to peek into the main chamber; worth it.
Marrakech
Ruins of a vast 16th-century Saadian palace, stripped of its decoration in the 17th century.
💬 Climb up to the terrace to see storks nesting on the walls.
Marrakech
💬 Rooftop tables over the Rahba Kedima spice square.
Jour 3 · Gardens and the madrasa
Marrakech
Garden created by painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé.
💬 Book a timed ticket online; the first slot of the day is the only quiet one.
Marrakech
💬 A combined ticket with the garden saves time.
Marrakech
16th-century Koranic school with carved cedar, stucco and zellige tilework, restored and reopened in 2022.
💬 The central courtyard with its pool is the photo; students' cells upstairs are tiny.
Marrakech
💬 A quiet break from the souks; climb the tower for a rooftop view.
Jour 4 · A day in the High Atlas
Imlil
💬 About 1.5 hours each way. Hire a local mountain guide in Imlil — villages are still rebuilding after the 2023 earthquake and it helps them directly.
Imlil
💬 Steady climb on mule tracks, about an hour each way; mint tea in a village house at the top.
Imlil
💬 Book lunch in advance; the terrace faces Jbel Toubkal.
Jour 5 · Hammam, the Mellah and home
Marrakech
💬 Public hammams are cheapest; riad or spa hammams are more comfortable — ask your riad which they recommend.
Marrakech
The historic Jewish quarter of Marrakech; the Lazama synagogue is traditionally linked to Jews who arrived after the 1492 expulsion from Spain.
💬 Small entry donation; modest dress. Continue to the old Jewish cemetery nearby.
Marrakech
💬 Allow extra time — security queues at Menara can be long.
